Vidirhrafn - Willowraven

2010

The blade on this sword is composit pattern welded of 1075 / 8670m, the core billets are an interrupted twist pattern and are each 9 layers, the edge billet is 800 layers of steel. The blade has a shallow wide fuller. The grip on this piece is carved from a section of wood that came from the rib of a submerged Viking ship; so it has special significance, it is dark oak. The hilt and scabbard fittings are silicon bronze and the scabbard is carved of curly yellow birch and lined with close sheered sheep fleece with the lanoline left in to protect the blade in the scabbard. The throat of the scabbard has the faces of nine of the gods from the Viking pantheon, and the chape is a dragonhead. This sword is inspired by the single edged swords commonly found in Scandinavia, during the ninth century.
