The blade is a composite construction in the Migration Era style
with three seven layer bars on the spine and body wich are twisted,
and a thirteen layer edge billet wich represents the 13 months
of the lunar year cycle. The blade is 21 inches of 1075/Admiral
L6 (which is essentially 1075 with nickle) it has a full tang
in the Vimose seax style and has moose antler scales which are
riveted in place and carved with Viking Age knot works. The scabbard
is darkened flamed birdseye maple with a moose antler throat.
The bands are silicon bronze with wolf head terminal and silicon
bronze oroborus D rings with Dublin dragon heads, inspired by
the staff found in Viking Age Dublin ( I did a reproduction of
this staff which may be viewed here
). The pommel of this blade has a Dublin dragon inspired gripping
beast riveted through it for tying on a wrist thong.
This blade is an interpretation of the short sword from the Icelandic
saga called Grettir's Saga. Here
is a page with sections of the saga relating to the finding of
this sword as well as Grettir's adventures involving it
Here is a small image of the blade which this piece was modeled
after, one of the Vimose Seaxes un-earthed in a bog in Denmark.

This sword was also featured in a book, published about the recipients
of the excellents awards in New Brunswick for 2006, I was the
recipient of the 'Emerging Artist of the Year' award for '06.
