Farbauti the cruel striker

This is a mythological sword inspired by the swords of the the Viking Era. It carries the story of how the Norse God Odhinn gained the wisdom of the runes, the gripp has the trunk of Yggdrasil, the world tree, carved on one side with Odhinn's name carved on it. the pommel represents the crown of the tree and the guard and blade pattern represent the roots. set in the center of the guard is the one eye of Odhinn. the scabbard has the first two stanzas of the Runatal written in the original old norse and in the elder runic futhork.

This sword was also featured in a book, published about the recipients of the excellents awards in New Brunswick for 2006, I was the recipient of the 'Emerging Artist of the Year' award for '06.

the blade is 36" of pattern welded crusible O1/L6 which has been marquenched in my new low temperature nitrate salt pot. The furniture is silicon bronze with a 400 layer Valkyrie hair damascus inset cornea on one side of the guard. The gripp and scabbard are hand carved from ash (the wood of Yggdrasil) which has been darkened. The spacers are leather and moose antler. The hilt is 12" in length.
