Farbauti the cruel striker
This is a mythological sword inspired by the swords of the the
Viking Era. It carries the story of how the Norse God Odhinn gained
the wisdom of the runes, the gripp has the trunk of Yggdrasil,
the world tree, carved on one side with Odhinn's name carved on
it. the pommel represents the crown of the tree and the guard
and blade pattern represent the roots. set in the center of the
guard is the one eye of Odhinn. the scabbard has the first two
stanzas of the Runatal
written in the original old norse and in the elder runic futhork.
This sword was also featured in a book, published about the recipients
of the excellents awards in New Brunswick for 2006, I was the
recipient of the 'Emerging Artist of the Year' award for '06.


the blade is 36" of pattern welded crusible O1/L6 which
has been marquenched in my new low temperature nitrate salt pot.
The furniture is silicon bronze with a 400 layer Valkyrie hair
damascus inset cornea on one side of the guard. The gripp and
scabbard are hand carved from ash (the wood of Yggdrasil) which
has been darkened. The spacers are leather and moose antler. The
hilt is 12" in length.
