Bundled Self Tablet

This piece is part of my continued exploration of the idea of self. In addition to the natural reference (grass-like etching) and the glyphs (ancient cultural heritage…forgotten mother tongues) I have included what I’m calling a “power bundle”. This is meant to be evocative of our bag of tricks: our personal ways of dealing with life; the filters we view the world through,;the opinions and ideas we encumber ourselves with. The tablets are meant to have a feeling of “monument”: the “self” as we portray ourselves defined in certain controlled ways; a structured notion of self as part of some definable whole. The glass symbolizes the ephemeral nature of self, and ephemerality of the structures we think of as being self-defining.
